Welcome to the Lab for Social Computing

Sam the Socialite

Hey! My name is Sam the socialite, if you have any questions about the LSC, I can help you out!

I am a big fan of social computing and can help you out whenever you need me. Common questions that people ask when they come to the Lab for Social computing website are about the following topics:

What is Social Computing?
What exactly is the Lab for Social Computing?
What kind of projects is the Lab working on?
How do I contact lab members?
How can I get involved with the Social Computing Club?
Where can I find a ton of information fast?

If you have a question and can't seem to find an answer by looking through the page, try a quick search. If you still can't find an answer, why don't you just 'Ask Sam' and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Enjoy your stay!

Seminar: Weblogs and Wikis and Friendsters (Oh, My!)

This seminar was presented on January 7th. But don't worry--if you missed it, there will be more! Stay tuned to this site for announcements of future seminars.

As promised, here is the Powerpoint presentation I gave.

--

What is social computing? This seminar provided a basic overview of current tools and trends in the field. Topics covered include:

* What's a "blog," and why would I want one?

* How can "wikis" support collaborative work?

* Tools for building and maintaining social networks online.

Join the LSC faculty and students as they talk about how members of the RIT community can put social computing tools to use for research, teaching, learning, and sharing.

The seminar will be held on Friday, January 7th, in the Golisano College auditorium (70-1400) from 3-4:30pm. Preregistration is not necessary.
